Jarrow Formulas Lutein provides 20mg lutein naturally sourced from marigold petal extract per capsule.

Like vitamins, lutein must come from the diet as it is not made in the body. Lutein is an antioxidant that belongs to the carotenoid family and occurs in nature together with another carotenoid called zeaxanthin. Both of these two antioxidants are concentrated in the lens and macula of the eye as well as in many other tissues including the brain, breasts, skin and cervical cells. These two carotenoids are naturally found in dark leafy greens, however, due to our highly processed modern diet, many may not be getting adequate levels of these in their diet. The macula of the eye is in charge of colour differentiation and focus.
