Cleanse, Tone, Moisturise - your new catch phrase!
A great skin cleaning regimen includes cleansing and moisturising, yet an often skipped step is toning. Use of a toner can be just as important as using cleansers and moisturisers, and can be beneficial for many different skin types. They are even easy enough to make yourself, but there are many great formulas available from good skincare brands. Whichever you choose, toners should be a mainstay in your skin cleaning regimen.

Toners for your skin type
There are different types of toners for different skin types. Read the label to decide which one suits your skin to attain the best results. If you want a natural toner it should be water-based and not overly-fragranced.

Oily skin - If you have oily skin (or blemish prone), choose a toner which aids in the repair of your skin surface. A well-formulated toner reduces pores and helps in handling excessive oil production. Witch Hazel is often used in toners for oily skin and is a natural ingredient. The ingredients in a toner for oily skin should help to empty your pores and make it hard for dirt and bacteria to collect and set up camp inside. If you don’t have oily skin, it’s best you use a toner suited to your skin type. Alcohol is often found in toners for oily skin as it has astringent properties, but it can be irritating for some people so read the ingredients carefully.
Sensitive skin (or dry skin), find a toner with no alcohol in it. Too much dryness can cause you to have an acne breakout or skin irritation. Find the ones with water-based formulations. Look out for these types of ingredients: chamomile extracts, rosewater, and vitamin B derivatives.
Combination skin (dry in some areas and oily in others), this can be a bit tricky. It’s best left for you to decide. If you’re going to try toners for the first time, use only a little amount. Other experts recommend that you try both types of toners for the dry and oily skin types. Observe how your face feels afterwards. Most of the time, people with combination skin types choose toners formulated for oily skin.

Don’t underestimate the value in using a toner every day. Lack time, can’t be bothered, or don’t think it’s necessary? These are common thoughts about toners. Once you start using a toner you’re bound to notice a difference in how your skin feels, a well-formulated toner can really provide amazing benefits for your skin. It’s about finding the right one for your skin type. Pamper your skin. Cleanse! Tone! Moisturise!
