Ingredients:
200g thick tuna steak
2 Tbsp black sesame seeds
1 Tbsp white sesame seeds
3 Tbsp sesame or olive oil
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 tsp fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1 Tbsp tamari soy sauce
½ a lime
¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Method:
- Cut the tuna steak into slices of about 3-4 cm pieces. Mix the black and white sesame seeds and coat each side of the tuna in seeds.
- Heat 1-2 tablespoons of oil in a fry pan on a medium heat. Add two thirds of the garlic and sautee for a minute or until light brown, then remove garlic from the pan to a plate.
- Add the tuna to the hot pan and sear all four sides for about 10-15 seconds. Then move to a plate.
- In a small bowl combine the remaining garlic, sesame oil, ginger, tamari and cayenne pepper. Squeeze in some lime juice and taste to see if more is needed.
- Slice tuna into thin slices and divide between two plates. Pour the ginger, garlic, lime and tamari dressing over the tuna and garnish with the cooked garlic and fresh coriander leaves.
Tip: Serve with slices of fresh avocado.
