Heavy pollutants, smoking, poor diet and physical and mental stress are all major factors that may contribute to an overload of free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that attack healthy cells and set off a chain reaction of destruction in your body that is caled oxidation. Oxidation is the same process that causes metal to rust and cut apples to go brown. Antioxidants are your body’s protectors against this damage as they neutralise free radicals in your body and protect your cells from damage. However, your body’s own antioxidant production may not be able to cope with the constant free radical attacks on your system, thus an antioxidant supplement may be required.
