- 1. Dial down the sweetness. Avoid sugar as much as possible. Sugar is thought to cause acne by increasing the production of pimple producing hormones such as androgens. Use natural sweeteners such as stevia, maple syrup, coconut sugar or honey. See our article about common natural sweeteners

- 2. Fatten up your skin with healthy fats. Healthy fats help you absorb the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Healthy fats are found in coconut oil, butter, avocado, olive oil, nuts and coconut cream. Fats are an integral part of the cell membrane. Without a cell membrane, your cells will not function properly. But turn away from deep-fried foods and processed vegetable oils. Examples of processed vegetable oils include canola oil, rice bran oil, safflower oil, and rapeseed oils. These vegetable oils are filled with omega-6 fatty acids. Too many omega-6 fatty acids in your system stimulate inflammation which is bad for your whole body including your skin. These vegetable oils are also often oxidised which makes them even more harmful to your cells. For more information on healthy and unhealthy oils see our article ‘Vegetable Oils Good vs Evil Part 1 & Part 2’ ( coming Soon ) .
- 3. Eat a rainbow...of fresh veggies and fruits. We recommend them raw and as fresh as possible to get the maximum benefit from them. They provide you with fibre, vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients such as antioxidants which help protect the skin from cellular damage.
- 4. Try the apple cider vinegar rinse. Apple cider vinegar has natural antimicrobial properties to help fight zit causing bacteria. Use a ratio of 1:3 vinegar to water (1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to 3 tablespoons of warm water), mix the solution and use a face cloth to cleanse your face. If you have sensitive skin use a ratio of 1: 5-6.

- 5. Exercise isn't just heart-friendly, it's also skin-friendly. Exercise increases blood flow to your skin. Blood brings oxygen and nutrients. At the same time, sweating during exercise helps to flush the debris (cellular debris) and toxins from your skin cells making them healthier. You may also enjoy a facial steam bath (with 1-2 drops of lavender) for a gentle facial cleanse.

- 6. Cut back on energy drinks. Are you a big fan of these energy drinks? You might want to avoid them if you want to help your skin. They dehydrate your body of water. When you're dehydrated, your liver's ability to get rid of toxins is impaired. You can't get rid of the toxins, so they stay in your system. Some of these toxins can affect the health of your skin. Energy drinks are also loaded with sugar, not one of your skins best friends.
- 7. Your liver helps in keeping your skin healthy and free from acne. Try liver supporting herbs like milk thistle in a capsule or liquid form to help your liver do its important job better. It regularly gets rid of toxins which can be harmful to your skin. See our article 18 Secrets For Keeping Your Liver Happy & Healthy.
- 8. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water to flush out toxins from your body. Constantly flushing out toxins will help you maintain zit-free, healthy skin.
- 9. Stop being hormonal about it. Seriously though, have your hormone levels checked out by a healthcare practitioner. An imbalance of hormones can really upset your skin and help to cause zits.

- 10. Choose your facial skin care products carefully. Pick natural products instead of chemical-based cleansers, toners and moisturizers. The chemicals can easily irritate your skin making matters worse while natural skincare products are much more kind and gentle to your skin.
